COMPOSITE
Written by Anat Wenick
Everything is finally going great in JULIE PATTERSON’s (mid 20s) life. Her photography studio is growing, she and her boyfriend, KEVIN TILDEN (early 30s), an up and coming fashion designer, are shooting their first fashion show catalogue, and she has just agreed to marry him. If it wasn’t for those recurring dreams and her obsession with taking pictures of men with straight black hair, she might have been happy. Kevin, Julie, and MELISSA GIBBONS (mid 20s), a crime reporter at a major newspaper and Julie’s best friend, attend a charity party. Melissa wants to introduce Julie to BEN ROTHMAN (40s), a successful attorney and heir to an immense fortune amassed by his father, the owner of the newspaper Melissa works for. But one look at Ben, and Julie is convinced he’s the man who brutally attacked her two years earlier. With gun and mask, she drives to Ben’s house, and threatens to kill him. But seeing his wife, she is incapable of pulling the trigger, and runs off. Realizing she would need Melissa’s help to expose Ben, Julie finally tells her she was attacked by a man with black hair and a scar on his back. Melissa promises to check with a policeman she knows, regarding other attacks in that area at that time, though dismissing the thought that Ben is the one. He’s known for being a big philanthropist, devoting time to helping others, and is happily married. Not willing to wait for Melissa’s result, Julie launches her own investigation. She goes to Ben’s office and introduces herself as a novelist doing research about lawyers. She notices he wears the same cologne as her attacker, and decides to plant cameras in her bedroom, lure Ben there, and make him recreate the attack. But the closer she and Ben get as they spend time together, the more distanced she becomes from Kevin, until she calls off the engagement. Melissa tells Julie that a man fitting the attacker’s description was caught for other attacks in the neighborhood at the time of Julie’s incident. Convinced Ben is not the one, Julie forsakes her vendetta and sleeps with him, only to find out he has a scar on his back. Convinced now that he is the one, she sends threatening letters to Ben’s office, his business partners, and his wife. Ben hires a detective who uncovers the truth about Julie. Ben gets Melissa fired, and has Julie’s studio trashed. Julie, feeling responsible for Melissa’s dismissal, crashes a party at Ben’s house, and reveals her affair with Ben to his wife, in front of all the guests. After the party, Melissa shows Julie proof that Ben was not the attacker. Realizing how wrong she was, Julie asks Melissa to spend the night at her place. His life falling apart, and angry as hell at Julie, Ben decides to take care of her himself. He breaks into Julie’s condo, locks Melissa in the spare bedroom and starts tormenting Julie. With Kevin rushing to Julie’s aid, but detained by car troubles, it is a race against time to see if Ben would be able to rape Julie before Kevin or Melissa can comes to her rescue.
