War has come to Europe again. The Miner family, like the Minivers in the 1941 film, find themselves fighting it out on two fronts. There's the Battle of Britain on one side, the aristocracy versus the gentry on the other. The Miners have upset their neighbor Lady Belfry by supporting the bell ringer in the local flower contest, which the lady has considered her domain ever since her husband got speared while empire-building half a century earlier. Son Biff doesn't help matters along by first slumming with Lady Belfry's granddaughter, then marrying her. All before the fateful flower contest, presided over by a vicar who looks an awful lot like that German pilot they almost captured.
