It is April 1943, three Jewish teenagers have escaped from the Warsaw Ghetto and are hiding in a root cellar of a bombed out farm house. Samuel and Rebecca are brother and sister and Reuben is Samuel's closest friend and boyfriend to Rebecca. The scene takes place during a spring night when they venture out of the cellar to get some fresh air. Reuben and Rebecca are daring to dream that there is a tomorrow for them when Samuel enters and tries not to destroy their dreams but puts them in the reality of their plight and the war surrounding them. In the end, they do hold on to their dream.
