Prelude is a dramatic play in two acts. It is a tribute to life surrounded by death. It takes place in Poland during the spring and summer of 1943. It portrays survival amidst the horrendous forms of degradation, torture and death. It follows two groups of people. The Youth, who disobey their parents by joining a Zionist Youth Group and the resistance and a group of men and women, who are members of the Judenrat, the psudo government established by the Nazis to maintain order in the Ghetto and in Treblinka Concentration Camp. Act One takes place entirely in the Warsaw Ghetto until it is burned in April 1943. Act Two takes place entirely in Treblinka Concentration Camp in August 1943 when during an uprising some members escape into the woods.
