A look behind the scenes of a political campaign, CAMPAIGN STRATEGY is a five-character drama, focused on the personal conflicts among political professionals in a three-way Congressional race.
ALYSSA, a professional media director, turns down a job on Sara Fielding's Democratic Congressional campaign to work for Tony Bridge, a left-wing Independent candidate. Her fiancé, WYMAN, a university professor, tries to talk her out of it on grounds that the Independent will split the Democratic vote and hand the election to a conservative Republican. This conflict reflects ongoing tensions in their relationship. WYMAN declares that he is supporting Sara Fielding.
When ALYSSA turns down the Fielding job, JEFFREY, the Fielding campaign manager, recruits BRENDA, ALYSSA'S close friend for media director. JEFFREY and BRENDA are lovers, and JEFFREY'S casual attitude about the relationship is an ongoing source of tension.
WYMAN goes to the Fielding campaign kickoff, where he and BRENDA flirt. Soon afterwards, they have a brief affair, which is brought to an abrupt end when ALYSSA threatens to use her political capital to derail artistic ambitions of BREDNA’S daughter.
The resulting emotional upheaval affects both the Fielding and Bridge campaigns.
