Amadou and Tatiana live in a rusted automobile on top of the tallest of three heaped hills of garbage at a site they share with: Karol and Ana Floria, whose baby has a hard path ahead of her; Empedocles, a former professor so disgusted with speech that he communicates only by text on placards, so fed up with life that he aggressively seeks release from it; Esmeralda, an entrepreneur tirelessly picking up discarded goods in her shopping cart and offering them for sale; Hanif, who may have experienced rendition at some time and landed here in the fulness of time thereafter; Nastassia, whose flirtatiousness within the shapeless grey of her rags suggests quite another life at some time in the past. The play tells a day in their life from dawn to dusk. Their mission, "should they decide to accept it", as Amadou informs his daughter at commencement of action, is to live another day. How they do is quite a story.
