An elderly man, (Henry White), returns to the small Italian village where he was stationed during the war, only to discover that the woman he fell in love with as a young man is still alive, and still has feelings for him. Unbeknown to Henry, he also has an illigimate son, who is full of resentment for him abandoning his mother during the war. It is only when Henry meets his grandson, who greatly resebles him, that the truth comes out, and father and son are reunited, as Henry decides to stay with his new found family.
