About the Writer Reg Mitchell was born in Bradford, where he trained at the Playhouse, becoming an Associate of the Drama Board of Great Britain. Awarded an OBE in 1990, he has several plays and adaptations to his credit, including Dickens’ Great Expectations (Waterside Theatre 1985), five Mystery Plays from the Wakefield Cycle (Sheffield Festival 1992), The Quiney Affair (RSC Fringe 1997 & The Other Place 2004) Hallmarks (Shakespeare Centre 1998); By Royal Command (commissioned for the Shakespeare millennium birthday celebrations); a Victorian musical adaptation of Dickens’ famous ghost story, A Christmas Carol (RSC Swan Theatre, 1999). Other plays include Love Letters in Four Acts, about the final years of Anton Chekhov’s life; Chastity at Stake, a musical adaptation of Vanbrugh’s The Relapse; a musical fairy tale, Elves! The Musical, based on The Elves and the Shoemaker; But Once a Year, a festive mystery; Murder by E-mail and Murder Weekend. Also several one-act plays. A founding partner of The Bird of Prey Theatre Company and Falcon Productions, he was also instrumental in forming Stratford Playwrights. |
