About the Writer
   Simon Levy (Playwright/Adaptor) is an award-winning playwright and director who has been the Producing Director/Dramaturg for the Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles since 1993. He is the recipient of the 2010 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle’s Milton Katselas Award for Career Achievement in Directing. His adaptation of The Great Gatsby, the first granted exclusive rights by the Fitzgerald Estate since 1926, was nominated for the PEN Award in Drama, and completes his Fitzgerald Trilogy of stage plays, which includes Tender is the Night (winner of the PEN Award in Drama) and The Last Tycoon (winner of 5 Back Stage awards including Best Adaptation). His critically-acclaimed adaptation of Elliot Weinberger’s What I Heard About Iraq has been produced all over the world, received a 30-city UK tour, and won numerous awards, including the Edinburgh Fringe First, the Adelaide Fringe Award, and was the BBC's official entry for Best Drama Adaptation in the 2008 Prix Italia. Current writing projects include A Noble Peace, based on the life of Nobel Laureate, Andrei Sakharov, and a contemporary adaptation of Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People (A Modern Version for America). He’s just completed a new play, Sessions with a Dead Poet, inspired by Dr. Frederick Kurth’s book about the father of modern Japanese poetry, Hagiwara Sakutaro, and is finishing his first novel for young adults, Love Eternal, based on the romance of Tristan and Iseult. Other plays include his one-act, Pink Skin, produced at the Bloomington Playwrights Project in Indiana and at thesideproject in Chicago; his one-act, She-Who-Is-Made-Of-Clay, which, among its many awards, is in pre-production as a short film; and his one-act, Vivian on the White Wall, which was a finalist for the Heideman Award, Actors Theatre of Louisville. His directing and producing credits are numerous, over 90 productions in Los Angeles and San Francisco that have won more than 200 awards.
