About the Writer The image attached to my profile is a trademark -- a brand of plays -- mine, which I hope you will associate with contemporary dramatic poetry: my endeavor to create compelling contemporary theater that includes the dimension of poetry performed. Even the best of my friends gently chide me that that is a most Quixotic endeavor, which, for all that, I find ever more exhilarating. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy my work, however you may come to it; I loved making it.
Some of the scripts of my plays are found here, at ProductionScripts.com. All of the scripts of my plays are on-line, for your consideration, at willowen.com and www.willow-n.com.
My full-length works for the theater include "Mary W. Shelley's Frankenstein," an adaptation for the stage of the novel by Mary Shelley; "Guise of Gals and Guys," a recasting of "Love's Labours Lost" into contemporary America; "Running Back, Running Back," distantly inspired by the great Hollywood movie of the 1930s "It Happened One Night;" and "IRS vs. Menaechmi," an umpteenth reworking of one of the oldest plays around.
I recently finished the book and lyrics for a Country and Western musical revue, "This Living on the Road is One True Story;" for those who may be interested in hearing them, versions of some of the songs are available from a number of music downloading services under the name of the show's melodist, Izzabella.
I am currently working on two plays, "Flight into Safety," about a man, woman and newborn fleeing murderous persecution, and "Wake the Cook and Light Up the Stove," a farce about love at first sight -- among the middle-aged.
Thank you. Like every artist, I am sincerely obliged to you for whatever time and attention you give my work.
Yours Very Truly,
Will Owen |
